These days, when I go to the grocery store, I always see people carefully reading the labels of the products they are about to buy before placing them in their carts. Similarly, at a restaurant, I hear patrons asking about processed ingredients, gluten, and a host of other things they’re looking to avoid. I’m curious as to why we don’t apply that same logic to the products we put on our skin and bodies every day. Most of us never consider that our skin is the largest organ of our body. Just as we are careful to monitor the things we consume, we should practice the same discipline in monitoring the things we put on our bodies.
While I would never suggest we can never consume the occasional processed food item, I would also never suggest that we need to avoid our favorite lotions and potions that make our daily rituals a little bit more pleasant. However, I would like to see greater awareness of what we’re using and why we’re using it. When it comes to something like deodorant, we believe in simple, clean, naturally derived ingredients. We want to give our customers the chance to choose products free of unnecessary or unnatural additives, chemicals, toxins, or other harmful ingredients.
Consider taking the simple step of reading the labels of the products that you’re wearing every day. If the ingredient list reads like a short essay and contains chemicals that you can’t pronounce or don’t recognize, consider looking at some alternatives. You may choose to do nothing different, but at least it will make you more aware of what you’re using, it’s impact on your body, and it’s impact on the environment.
